1. INTRODUCTION
Thocky ("App", "we", "us", or "our") is a native macOS menu bar app that plays mechanical-keyboard switch sounds as you type. By using Thocky, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by this Privacy Policy.
2. DATA WE COLLECT
Thocky collects nothing.
2.1 Information We Do NOT Collect
- No Account: Thocky does not require you to sign up, log in, or provide an email address
- No Server: Thocky has no backend server and no network code of any kind. Nothing is ever transmitted off your Mac
- No Analytics or Tracking SDKs: The App does not include third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking libraries
- No Keystroke Logging: Thocky never reads, stores, or transmits what you type
2.2 Information Processed Locally, On Your Device Only
- Key Timing: Thocky's Input Monitoring permission is used only to detect key-down/key-up timing so it knows when to trigger a switch sound. The actual character pressed is discarded immediately after the sound plays or the on-screen key visualizer briefly updates — it is never logged or stored
- Preferences: Your selected switch profile, volume, and sound-studio settings are stored locally on your Mac using standard macOS preferences (UserDefaults), so the App remembers them between launches
None of the above ever leaves your Mac.
2.3 Permissions the App May Request
- Input Monitoring: Required for all core functionality — detecting keystrokes system-wide to trigger the matching switch sound
- Accessibility (optional): Used only to keep the floating keyboard overlay reliably interactive over full-screen apps. The App works without it
3. HOW WE USE DATA
- Core Functionality: Detecting key-down/key-up timing to trigger and shape switch sounds
- Nothing Else: We do not use any data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond the App's stated sound-effect functionality
4. DATA SHARING AND THIRD PARTIES
- No Sale or Sharing: We do not sell, rent, trade, or share any data with third parties, because we do not collect or transmit any data off your device in the first place
- No Third-Party SDKs: The App does not integrate third-party analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting services
5. DATA RETENTION AND DELETION
- All preferences described above are stored only in the App's local storage on your device
- Uninstalling the App permanently deletes all locally stored data
6. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
Thocky does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children, because it does not collect personal data at all. The App is not directed at children under 13.
7. CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last Updated" date above.
